Get A Round TUIT!

Don't just say it, DO IT!

How many times have you been asked to do something and responded with "I'll do it when I get around to it?" Don't be embarrassed, most of us have done that at one time or another. Now, how many times have you made that promise and never "gotten around to it"? I'm not ashamed to admit that I can't count that high!

Procrastination is a real popular sport it seems. We tend to procrastinate much more than we should, and in Scouting that's not a good thing. You see, if we adults can't manage to do what we promise, how can we expect our Scouts to? It all goes back to setting the right example.

When Johnny asks you for an Emergency Preparedness merit badge card and you brush him off with "when I get around to it," that's setting an example for him you won't easily get rid of. You might find Johnny saying "when I get around to it" on the next campout when you ask him to put out that tent fire or treat your broken leg.

When I was a kid I had two standard answers for everything: "I don't know," and "When I get around to it." My Scoutmaster rarely accepted either excuse. In response to my procrastination he would usually reach into his pocket, pull out a scrap of paper and draw this symbol on it. Then, he'd hand me the paper and say "Okay, here's a round tuit, now go do it!"
